Exercise Tips to Fight Postmenopausal Weight Gain

Over a hundred women write, post, or call me daily with a question about postmenopausal weight gain and their questions are very similar: “ Why can’t I lose weight? I’ve been exercising and eating well and nothing has changed .” In this post I’m going to tackle the exercise part of the equation. Know this, however – there is no one-size-fits-all eating plan. That has gone by the wayside and, particularly during a time of major hormone upheaval, you may need a radical change based on your individual needs. You must also reroute your nutrition to serve you right now. For an in-depth article on nutritional needs postmenopausal read  Why Postmenopausal Women Can’t Lose Weight . Any time your body feels threatened it’s going to tend to shut down instead of rev up. The better exercise solution that will prevent postmeno...

How To Find Your Signature Dish Before Thanksgiving

With more people choosing to entertain at home lately, I find myself uttering the phrase, “What can I bring?” quite often. Usually, I’ll offer dessert or wine, since both of these items are easy to pick up at the local store. I’ve always wished I had a signature dish.  I have long admired when people bring their “signature dish” to pot lucks and barbeques. My friend Andrea makes a fantastic cold salad with ramen noodles. Chef, owner of Ariane Kitchen & Bar and Top Chef Season 5 contestant Ariane Duarte, says, “I’m a professional chef and sometimes even I get intimidated worrying, ‘Will people like my dish?’ We overthink what we...

OK, confession time: The plot of Emily in Paris  wasn’t exactly my thing. I scoffed every time yet another perfect French man strolled into Emily’s life and rolled my eyes at her rapid Instagram growth with little effort. So what made me finish all 10 episodes in a mere weekend? Her clothes. Emily’s wardrobe is, in a word, perfection. It’s eclectic and fun and colorful and everything unexpected that we actually wanted this year. And my personal favorite part of all of it? Her coats and jackets. There is absolutely nothing that can steal the show like a fabulous jacket can, and Emily proved that in just about every scene in the show. I didn’t know I needed a metallic green jacket, but hell, I guess she showed me that I do now. Sit back, enjoy the show, and leave the frantic Googling to us—these are the closest dupes on the Internet to Emily Cooper’s swoon-worthy coat collection (all at price’s that are a lot less than her Chanel habits).    1. Of course Emily ...
