I’ve Been in a Relationship for Over 11 Years—This is How We’re Mixing Up At-Home Dates

My husband and I have been together for 10 years. We started dating when we were teenagers and recently realized our idea of date night hasn’t changed much in the past decade. When we first met, we were in college, living at home with our parents, and didn’t have a lot of cash on hand for fancy dates. While these days we have a lot more options when it comes time to plan a date, we realized we that more often than not, we choose to have dates at home. Maybe it’s because we’re homebodies or maybe it’s a pandemic side effect, but we really do enjoy staying home together. There’s nothing wrong with skipping the pricey restaurants and crowded movie theaters, but even we could tell out at-home dates we’re getting a bit stale (hint: one too many movie nights). The Black Cartoon Characters That Literally Raised Me

Nothing made my weekend mornings better as a kid than waking up before the rest of my family, pouring myself a giant bowl of sugary cereal, and claiming the living room as my domain to watch a plethora of cartoons. My parents might say otherwise, but cartoons were truly an incredible source of entertainment for me, and I owe my vivid imagination to just about every animated series I ever watched during my formative years. From the characters to the outlandish plots to the catchy theme songs that I most likely know word-for-word to this day, my weekend ritual of watching cartoons is my simplest yet fondest memory. When it comes to my favorite cartoons, my list is pretty extensive, but what falls short is the number of Black cartoon characters in each series.  CURRENTLY TRENDING / RELATIONSHIPS Is Your Partner Your Soulmate or Your Twin Flame? and what that means for your relationship READ MORE Growing up, representation even in animated series was limited, but the characters

10 Foods to Eat If You Want a Better Sex Life, According to Experts

You’ve probably heard about aphrodisiacs like chocolate and strawberries to get you in the mood, but is there really a correlation between nutrition and sex and if so, what are the best foods for sex? While aphrodisiacs are controversial among experts (no, chocolate is not a magical food meant to make you orgasm), many healthy foods contain important nutrients that can affect hormones or increase blood flow to help increase pleasure in the bedroom (or the bathroom, back of your car, with your vibrator–no judgment!).  CURRENTLY TRENDING / RELATIONSHIPS Is Your Partner Your Soulmate or Your Twin Flame? and what that means for your relationship READ MORE But just a reminder that libido is a vital sign—a low sex drive could be the body’s way of communicating that it needs something. Therefore, the question is not just how can we improve our sex drive, but  why  is our sex drive lacking in the first place? This list is not meant to replace talking to your doc about finding the

How Black Music Became America’s Soundtrack

Erykah Badu and Common’s song “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop)” is a beautiful analogy of hip-hop music being their first love. I know exactly how they feel because music was one of my first loves, too. Both sides of my family are very musically inclined, so it’s almost like music is ingrained in who I am. Music—particularly Black music—has been the soundtrack to my life for as long as I can remember. In my household growing up, each activity or mood had a playlist to match—old school hits from the ’70s when it was time to clean on Saturday mornings, soulful ballads on Sunday evenings when we were getting ready for the week ahead, and the hottest, latest records each morning as I got ready for school. Music has always been part of me.
