Polished Wardrobe Essentials for the Ageless Woman

Polished and Professional Outfits For Women That Are Always In Style

Picking classic, professional outfits for the over-50 woman is critical; even more so than it was when we were younger. We’ve outgrown following the latest fads or chasing the newest trends each year. And this maturity is reflected in our wardrobe, showing our more thoughtful approach to life. But that certainly doesn’t mean our wardrobes boring. We’re certainly not! What it does mean is that our wardrobes should be as ageless as we are. When I think about the items I turn to most in my closet, and consider wardrobe essentials, they are all classic pieces, e.g. a perfect pair of jeans that flatter my figure, layering knits, wool-cashmere blazer, modern loafers, and a bowler bag refined by clean lines.

Wardrobe essentials may vary for each of us depending on our lifestyle, body type, etc., but most women tend to wear the same things over and over. Determine what suits you best and then buy the best, because this is the foundation of your fashion. Below are some suggestions to get you started. Happy shopping!

Polished and Professional Outfits for Women

The Perfect Pair of Jeans

Every woman needs at least one pair that fits her perfectly. Read Jeans for Women Over 50: Comfort Meets Chic for tips on buying jeans, and a whole range of other styles and prices.

The Layering Knit

Tissue-light layers carry you from day to night with ease. Choose necklines and sleeve lengths based on how you best like to showcase your décolleté. Read The Basics for an All Black Wardrobe for more options, necklines, and price ranges.

The Tailored Blazer

A true wardrobe essential in every woman’s closet is a blazer. Your best bets are charcoal, navy, or camel; but nothing beats black for versatility. You’ll want to be able to wear them with jeans, pants, and dresses. This should be your biggest investment piece.

The Best Pair of Pants to Own

These are technically leggings, but fit more like pants. You can’t “wear them out” and they never lose their shape. Saks sells them year-round — they’re that good!

The Loafer

Your go-to shoe should be comfortable above all else. And you want a shoe that doesn’t go out of style. Soft driving loafers are minimalist and pair well, high or low.

The Bowler Bag

The simple lines of the classic bowler bag endure not just for design’s sake, form follows function with this bag. Most bowler bags are designed for women with busy lives and have compartments for the ultimate organization on top of style.
