With the beginning of a new year comes a deluge of predictions on what’s going to be trending in the next 12 months. Now before you come at me for piling on with yet another trend forecast no one asked for, let me remind you that 1) choosing paint colors is tricky business and 2) seeing what colors others are gravitating towards is one of the best sources of inspiration. And although paint isn’t permanent, it would still be a pain to redo if you decide in a year or two that the color you chose now looks out of date. So if you’re looking for some inspiration to make your color choices easier, these are the trending paint colors you’re about to see everywhere in 2024.

1. Muted Blues

If paint companies’ picks for color of the year are any indication, blue is about to have its moment in 2024. Brands including Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Valspar all chose shades of blue as their predictions for 2024’s top color trend, so it’s safe to say that you’re about to see a lot more of this calming hue. Specifically, look for soft, muted shades of blue (like well-worn denim) to make this classic color feel fresh for 2024.

2. Chocolate Brown

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: Brown is back, baby. The color consistently tops the list of design trends experts are looking out for in 2024, so there’s no better time to embrace this rich, cozy neutral. There’s just something about brown that feels familiar and nostalgic, which means this paint color trend ties in perfectly with the vintage-inspired influences we’ve been seeing everywhere from fashion to home decor.

3. Toned-Down Pinks

In 2023, the release of the Barbie movie brought back hot pink in a big way, but in 2024, that color trend is going in a softer, earthier direction. Think toned-down shades of terracotta, moody mauves, and beiges that verge on blush. When used as paint colors, these pinkish shades can act as unexpected neutrals that feel warm and comforting.

For the past few years, we’ve seen the popularity of cool grays subside in favor of warmer neutrals, and in the next 12 months, that trend is only going to continue. Case in point: Glidden selected a honey-toned beige called Limitless as their color of year for 2024. While gray can feel cold and gloomy, these warmer tones have a grounding, comforting effect.

5. Earthy Greens

Cooler shades including sage and emerald have reigned supreme over the past few years, but in 2024, greens are following the warming trend. Rich olive greens, such as Dutchboy’s 2024 color of the year, Ironside, are growing in popularity thanks to their versatility and moody feel. Especially for those who prefer more neutral tones, these warmer shades of green provide an easy gateway into color because they mimic what you see in nature.
